Two methyl fumarate (DMF), which exists in consumer goods, is accused of damaging health.

The European Commission has now legislations to effectively ban the use of two methyl fumarate (DMF) in the European market.

Fumarate two methyl ester (DMF) is a biocide, used to prevent mold growth. During storage or pportation, mold will damage leather, footwear or furniture, especially in humid climates.

DMF is often placed in small bags fixed inside the furniture, or added to the footwear packaging box, purify the internal environment, protect products from moldy.

Usually, these bags look like small bags of silicone and nontoxic desiccers commonly used in leather products.

In France, Poland, Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom, consumers suffer from skin irritation, redness and burns. In some serious cases, acute dyspnea appears to be caused by skin contact with methyl fumarate (DMF).

The EU issued the EU Directive (2009/251/EC) in March 17, 2009, requiring products containing two methyl fumarate (DMF) not to enter the market.

This means that any part of a product or part of a product containing one or more bags, containing DMF weight greater than 0.1 mg / kg, can not enter the market.

The directive also stipulates that any product that has entered the market containing DMF will be withdrawn before May 1, 2009, and consumers must be aware of the potential risks.

Any manufacturer, purchasing company or retailer should pay close attention to DMF, keep in touch with SATRA technology center and test whether their products contain these chemicals. They are looking for suggestions to replace moldy treatment of two methyl fumarate.
