Industrial Cluster: Shengze Creates A World-Class Climate Action Demonstration Zone For Textile Industry Cluster

On August 17, Shengze textile and garment enterprise climate training camp was successfully held in Shengze administrative service center. The training camp was guided by the social responsibility Office of China Textile Industry Federation and hosted by China Textile Information Center and Shengze economic development and Reform Bureau. More than 50 enterprise representatives from 41 key enterprises and seven sub sectors of Shengze textile and garment industry participated in the training camp (a list of enterprises is attached at the end of the paper).

In response to President Xi Jinping's instructions in April 2021 on accelerating carbon peaking and carbon neutralization, Shengze, with a complete industrial ecology from raw materials to terminal brands, actively responds to China's 30 / 60 double carbon target, At the opening ceremony of Shengze fashion week and the 9th Jiangsu (Shengze) Textile Expo cloud Exhibition on June 16, 2021, the "carbon neutral vision of Shengze textile industry cluster" was officially released, and China Textile Industry Federation's "climate innovation 2030 action" was announced.

On July 23, 2021, the kick-off meeting of Shengze textile industry climate innovation action project was held. Li Xia, director of Regional Cooperation Department of foreign environmental cooperation center of Ministry of ecology and environment, Shen Chunrong, deputy director of Wujiang District People's government, Secretary of Party Working Committee of Wujiang high tech Zone and Secretary of Shengze Town Party committee, and Qiao Yanjin, director of China Textile Information Center, Yan Yan, director of the social responsibility Office of the China Textile Industry Federation, and others attended the kick-off meeting. Sun Yizhen, standing member of the climate Finance Committee of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, Zhao Lijian, general manager of Carbon Trust in China, and Chen Yanwei, senior manager of China's sustainable development of HSBC, jointly discussed how to build Shengze into a national carbon exploration peak from the perspectives of climate and finance The way forward for carbon neutral industrial demonstration zone. Since the implementation of industrial carbon peak, carbon neutral baseline and roadmap planning in Shengze region, the carbon emission data of more than 60 typical Shengze enterprises have been investigated in detail, and the first draft of "Shengze textile cluster dual carbon strategic plan" has been formed.

The climate training camp is aimed at key enterprises in Shengze, focusing on improving the professional knowledge level of climate change and climate innovation action ability of enterprises, so as to support the formulation of double carbon planning of Shengze textile industry cluster. At the beginning of the training camp, Chen Mingyuan, deputy director of Shengze economic development and Reform Bureau, delivered a speech, introducing the background and work plan of Shengze textile industry climate innovation action. The lecturers from China Textile Information Center conducted training on "climate action progress and industrial cluster practice of China's textile and garment industry", "strategy, path and pioneer practice of enterprise's double carbon action" and carbon emission data collection.

Through wearing the "zero carbon talent - climate practitioner mask", all enterprise representatives expressed their determination to take climate action, and actively asked questions about the follow-up work in the interactive communication link, and made efforts to promote Shengze textile industry to be the first demonstration of Global Climate Governance and China's carbon neutral process.
