City To City War: Shanghai To The International Exhibition City?

ShanghaiInternational ExhibitionExhibition Economy

Here comes the National Convention and Exhibition Center

in recent years, Shanghai The exhibition industry ranks first among the major cities in China in terms of exhibition quantity and exhibition area, and also ranks among the world's major exhibition cities. In 2014, a total of 755 exhibitions were held in Shanghai, an increase of 3.27% compared with 2013.

Among the major exhibition halls in Shanghai, Pudong New International Expo Center is regarded as the industry leader. Its scale, quantity and quality are the best in Shanghai and even in China. However, this year, the New International Expo Center will face unprecedented challenges, because the National Convention and Exhibition Center has arrived.

Located in the west of Hongqiao Business District, the International Exhibition Center is the largest single building and the largest exhibition complex in the world. Compared with Pudong New International Expo Center, the indoor exhibition area of the International Exhibition Center is 400000 square meters, which is twice its area.

In today's economic new normal, China's exhibition industry is also in the process of transformation. Will the two major exhibition centers in Pudong and Puxi have a "museum without Exhibition" phenomenon?

In response, Chen Xianjin, President of Shanghai Convention and Exhibition Industry Association, said that in the initial stage, the International Exhibition Center in Hongqiao will have some impact on Pudong New International Expo Center, and the total number of projects in the Expo Center will be reduced, but the impact time should not be long. "Because the venue service of Pudong New International Expo Center is very standardized, and its brand awareness is high, it has established a fixed customer base. On the other hand, the center of gravity of the international exhibition industry is moving eastward, and the total amount of exhibitions in Shanghai will rise. It is unlikely that there will be a museum without exhibition. In the future, the two museums will complement each other, cooperate with each other in competition, and develop hand in hand smoothly. "

   Two pavilions Operation mode Different

One issue that worries the industry is whether the two major convention and exhibition centers in Shanghai will be "homogenized" due to competition.

The reporter learned in the interview that such worries are not unreasonable. However, based on the different operation modes of the National Convention and Exhibition Center and the New International Expo Center, the "crash" probability of the two exhibitions will not be too high. Judging from the current arrangement, the National Convention and Exhibition Center is not only the venue renter, but also the organizer of exhibition projects. Therefore, there will be many self-organized exhibitions in the future. As a result, the joint venture between China and Germany is not only the first International Exhibition Center, but also the International Exhibition Center.

In fact, many foreign exhibitors are more concerned about the opening up of Shanghai's exhibition industry. The general manager of the French Convention and Exhibition Center has given a fair way to run the exhibition center in Paris. "When the theme of self-organized exhibition projects is similar to that of other rental projects, the venue side will give priority to letting the other party enter the exhibition first. After doing so, the impact on the venue side will be better and the business will be more prosperous."

Virtual Exhibition Can exhibition entities be replaced

In fact, both the National Convention and Exhibition Center and the New International Expo Center still face a common challenger, that is, the Internet.

In the face of the new technology with mobile Internet as the core, whether virtual exhibition will replace physical exhibition is another topic that touches nerves of the industry. Zhang Lijun, general manager of Tencent Shanghai, believes that the application of mobile Internet in the exhibition industry is a new revolution in the exhibition industry, which will bring new impetus to the development of the exhibition industry. The emergence and development of "never ending" virtual exhibition is an inevitable trend.

Vice President Gong Weigang thinks that it is impossible for the exhibition industry to replace the virtual entity. "There should be a complementary relationship between the two. For example, the consumer goods exhibition, which is not expensive, can be highlighted in the virtual exhibition. Industrial related building materials or high-tech electronic products will not have an impact on the virtual exhibition. The use of the Internet can indeed expand the market of virtual exhibition, which may also be the development direction of the exhibition industry in the future. However, compared with this, the credibility of traditional physical exhibition industry is higher. "
