"Friendship Tour Of The Redwood Tree": Commemorate Sino US Table Tennis Diplomacy 40Th Anniversary

This year is the 40th anniversary of Chinese and American table tennis diplomacy.

Invited by the Chinese Table Tennis Association, the delegation of the US table tennis delegation visited China from December 8th to December 15th.

Changshou City, Jiangsu is the last stop for the celebration of the 40th anniversary Sino US table tennis diplomacy.

Li Zhaoxing, chairman of the eleventh Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress, Yang Jizhao, executive vice president of the China Textile Industry Association, former deputy director of the State Sports General Administration, honorary chairman of the Chinese Table Tennis Association, honorary chairman of the International Table Tennis Federation, Xu Yinsheng, vice chairman of the Chinese Table Tennis Association, Lu Yuansheng, etc.

After the thirty-first World Table Tennis Championships in 1971, with the attention of the party and state leaders, the Chinese Table Tennis Association invited the US table tennis team to visit China, thus enabling China and the United States to establish a bridge of exchange of information, laying the foundation for friendship between China and the United States and the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States.

In 1972, the Chinese table tennis delegation visited the United States at the invitation of the US National Committee on Sino US relations and the American table tennis association.

It is precisely because of the exchange between Chinese and American table tennis players, which has played a positive and significant role in improving relations and promoting friendly exchanges between China and the United States. This history is known as "ping pong diplomacy".

The Chinese and American table tennis circles have maintained close ties of friendship in the following 40 years, and have sent delegations to exchange visits many times.

In 1996, 2001 and 2006, 25th anniversary, 30th anniversary and 35th anniversary celebrations of Chinese and American ping-pong diplomacy were held respectively. The delegation received warm welcome from local governments and table tennis enthusiasts. The friendship between the older generation of Chinese and American athletes was inherited and developed on the younger generation athletes, and both sides played a very active role in promoting the development of international table tennis.
