Sichuan: Sharp Decline In Shoes And Clothing Exports

Chengdu Customs announced the latest statistics yesterday, 1-5 months in Sichuan province.

Clothing and footwear were once the traditional bulk export commodities of Sichuan.

In the 1-5 months of this year, the number of traditional bulk export commodities such as clothing and footwear declined, which is a major reason why Sichuan's foreign trade export growth is lower than the national average level.

"Clothing exports can be said to be sharp, footwear exports are also declining, and textile export growth is low."

According to the Chengdu customs, 1-5 months Sichuan exported textile yarn, fabrics and products 480 million US dollars, an increase of 1.6%; export clothing and accessories 380 million US dollars, a sharp decrease of 58.6%, and the overall export growth of the province 7.1 percentage points; export shoes 250 million U. S. dollars, down 9.7%.

"Wages are up about 25% this year."

The local shoe industry revealed that the technical staff who originally paid 1800 yuan a month now need 2100 yuan -2200 yuan, resulting in an increase in the cost of employment.

According to customs analysis, the price of raw materials used for shoemaking continued to rise. In April, the domestic cotton price index (328 class price) was 29000 yuan per ton.

Small accessories such as rubber, rivets, heels and fringes for making soles are also rising.

The main competitors of China's footwear exports, such as India and Vietnam, are gradually playing a favorable role in the competition by virtue of their cheaper labor cost advantages.

Three factors, such as rising costs, increasing competition and trade barriers, are affecting the traditional bulk export commodities of Sichuan.

Portable computer exports doubled

In terms of exports, the export of portable computers and solar cells in Sichuan has increased rapidly, and the traditional mechanical and electrical products such as integrated circuits have been on the decline.

Data showed that portable computers exported $1 billion 30 million in 1-5, compared with only $5 thousand last year.

Similarly, solar cell exports amounted to US $170 million, surging by 88.5%.

Compared with the traditional main products, the main products showed a downward trend. Among them, integrated circuit was 790 million US dollars, down 10.9%, metal products 410 million US dollars, down 20.9%, drilling rig decreased 33%, TV set dropped 32.3%.

From the geographical point of view, Chengdu's exports in the first 5 months continued to top the list with us $6 billion 400 million, accounting for 77.4% of the total export volume of the whole province.

However, the increase is only 8.1%, which is also a major factor in the slow growth of export in the whole province.

In addition, exports from Mianyang and Leshan also declined significantly.

According to customs, at present, the export of private enterprises in Sichuan has declined, and the export of foreign-funded enterprises has increased rapidly.

In addition, there are fewer enterprises with export performance.

In 1-5 months, the total number of enterprises with export performance in Sichuan was 2073, representing a net decrease of 152 over the same period last year.
