In December 2010, 8 additional substances of high concern were added.

According to customs statistics, in February 2011, Jiaxing's textile and clothing exports amounted to US $931 million, an increase of 8.84 percentage points over the same period last year.

Among them, exports to the EU 247 million US dollars, an increase of 5.42% over the same period, accounting for 26.5% of the total export volume of textiles and clothing.

"From the raw material processing to the finished products, the textile industry inevitably contains some chemicals.

In the short term, REACH regulations will bring certain impact to textile and garment enterprises.

The Municipal Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau responsible person said.

The impact is mainly reflected in three aspects.

First, the cost of testing and testing of chemicals in textiles and the price of qualified chemicals were greatly increased, and the direct cost of export commodities was increased. Two, it put forward more stringent and strict requirements and restrictions on chemicals used in textile production. Three, the REACH regulations protected the interests of importers from law and greatly increased the difficulty of textile and clothing exports to the European Union.

It is understood that at present, most enterprises in Jiaxing do not attach enough importance to REACH regulations, and even a considerable number of enterprises have never heard of REACH regulations.

The Jiaxing Municipal Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau has learned from SGS, an internationally renowned testing organization, that many enterprises in Jiaxing have actively tested the way to ensure that products can meet the requirements of the EU's REACH regulations. However, a considerable number of enterprises are passive testing.

SGS experts remind that as a textile and garment enterprise, it is necessary to keep abreast of the REACH regulations, grasp the relevant parts of the textile and garment enterprises, and penetrate into the production process, and control the product quality from the source to meet the requirements of REACH regulations, so as to change the passive into the initiative.
