Thailand Textile Industry Develops "Green Products"

According to the government's creative economic policy, Thailand's textile industry will develop into a sustainable or "green product" industry.

At the ceremony of the development of textile industry, Witoon Simachokdee, the industry's permanent minister, said that the Ministry of industry has designated the Thailand textile society to promote the development of Thailand's textile industry, aiming at achieving the goal of "green products".

He said that Thailand's textile industry expanded more than 20% this year, with a total value of more than 7 billion dollars.

He said that business growth next year is expected to exceed 20%.

However, he believes that SMEs are worrying because they do not have enough capital to improve their products and achieve the goal of "green products".

The Ministry of industry will consider setting up a fund to provide further assistance to them.

The Ministry of industry this year supported 350 small and medium-sized enterprises to help them form 10 industrial clusters.

Next year, it is expected to continue to help SMEs form the same number of industrial clusters.

About 10% of the total value of exports is green textile products, which are mainly exported to Japan and the EU market. Local consumers are willing to pay 20-30% more than normal textile products.

At present, among the ASEAN countries, Thailand is the leader of green products. EU, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China are also developing their green products.
