Ethiopia plans to raise the annual export revenue of garments greatly, and Ethiopia intends to raise its clothing export revenue to 1 billion US dollars in the next five years.


Ethiopia intends to raise its export earnings to $1 billion, and has made efforts in this regard.

The industry believes that during the planned period, the state will reduce domestic clothing consumption. At present, domestic clothing consumption accounts for 90%, and the country will expand the number of garment exports.

In the last fiscal year, the export revenue of the country was $25 million, and its revenue target was almost 40 times that of the previous fiscal year.


This year, the country's textile export revenue target is US $100 million.

The clothing sector has grown significantly over the past five years. Foreign exchange earnings from garment exports reached $25 million in 2002, compared with just 4 million dollars 8 years ago.

According to experts, there are about 42 neutral and large enterprises in Ethiopia.

These textile enterprises export garments directly or indirectly.
