Infant Clothing

The first infant clothing standard in China was officially implemented in October 1st.

Compared with the previous standard of children's clothing, the new standard specifies the specific standards of arsenic, copper and formaldehyde in clothing, and stipulates that it is necessary to label "dry cleaning".

Yesterday, the City Quality Supervision Bureau experts interpreted the standard also reminded that do not buy too bright colors of infant clothing.

Strictly limiting the content of heavy metals, so called infant clothing, refers to clothing that babies wear in less than 24 months.

Experts said that infants and young children like to drag and bite clothes, if the infant clothing formaldehyde content exceeds the standard, will cause harm to the health of infants and young children.

Therefore, the new standard clearly stipulates that the maximum collar size of infant pullovers is not less than 52 cm, and metal accessories shall not have burrs, sharp edges and tips, and the exposed length of the rope should not exceed 14 centimeters.

The new standard strictly limits the content of heavy metals in clothing, for example, the arsenic content should not exceed 0.2 mg per kilogram, the copper content should not exceed 25 mg per kilogram, and the formaldehyde content must be less than or equal to 20 mg per kg.

It is necessary to mark "no dry cleaning" part. Parents will have such doubts. Can children's clothes be sent to dry cleaners for dry cleaning?

In this regard, the new standard gives a clear answer: in the standard, it is particularly emphasized that dry cleaning agents may contain substances that stimulate the skin of infants and young children. Therefore, infants and young children must be marked "not dry cleaned" on their labels.

In addition, taking into account the infant skin is more delicate than adults, the new standard limits the pH value of infant clothing to 4 to 7.5, and prohibits the use of decomposable aromatic amine dyes.

Experts say that decomposable aromatic amine dyes are toxic and harmful to human body. They will be absorbed by the skin after contacting with the human body. They will spread and react in the human body and decompose carcinogenic aromatic amines. Eventually, it will cause human diseases and induce cancer, with a latent period of up to 20 years.

Don't buy clothes that are too bright in color. Reporters learned that last year, the State Quality Supervision Department conducted sampling inspection on children's clothing products, showing that the pass rate of children's wear was only about 62%, and nearly 40% of children's clothing failed.

The main reasons for the failure are excessive content of heavy metals and excessive formaldehyde content.

How to choose comfortable baby clothes?

Experts remind that for infants and young children to buy clothes, we should pay attention to check whether the metal accessories of the clothes are covered with burrs, whether the edges are sharp or not.

In addition, try not to buy printed clothing, do not choose to have sequins beads; it is best not to choose the clothes that are processed by ironing and soft treatment, because this kind of clothing is likely to have a high formaldehyde content.

Experts also remind parents not to buy too bright colors for infants and young children to avoid harmful substances such as decomposable aromatic amines.
