Southern Africa clothing And SACTWU held a meeting of the National Executive Committee in Cape Town on November 10-12, 2011.

The report shows that the decline in employment in the garment, textile, footwear and leather industries has slowed significantly. According to this report and the unemployment database information from the Alliance, in the first nine months of this year, the unemployment of CTFL industry fell by more than 50% year on year, or even by 64% compared with 2009.


The slowdown in unemployment is mainly attributed to the aid in the form of government support measures of billion yuan for the garment, textile, shoes and leather industries, which has increased the competitiveness of factories. The Union of Southern African Garment and Textile Workers has worked to increase the demand for local commodities and ensure the full implementation of the industrial development strategy.
